Literacy
Volunteers of Bastrop (L.V.B) was established in 1988 as Literacy
Volunteers of America - Bastrop. It was initially operated out
of the homes of its founders, two educators. After being certified
by Literacy Volunteers of America in 1989, they formed a board,
established an office, recruited tutors, secured and assessed
students, and matched them with tutors.
Since
its founding, L.V.B. has provided thousands of hours of tutoring
through programs for basic reading and others such as English
as a Second Language, Family Literacy, and GED tutoring.
Literacy Volunteers of Bastrop owes its success to the hundreds
of community members who have participated as tutors or volunteered
in other capacities.
Collaboration with Bastrop County and City of Bastrop governments,
Community Action Inc., Advocacy Outreach Inc., Texas Workforce
Center of Bastrop County, Head Start, the Bastrop Public Library
and Bastrop Independent School District has contributed to the
success of our program.
