Art
On The Bridge - October 2006
"We
like having a booth at "Art on the Bridge" as it gives us
an opportunity to meet the community and let them know who the "Friends"
are, make them aware of our wonderful library and what it has to offer.
And maybe we acquire some new "Friends" members too!,"
wrote Linda Davies, VP - Volunteers.
This
year, as well as selling our Friends' merchandise and beverages, we
also sold donated baked goods. Sales brought in about $300 for the
library.
Volunteers
worked in one or two hour shifts spreading good-will; selling beverages,
baked goods, "Friends" merchandise; handing out library
literature, and signing-up new "FRIENDS OF THE BASTROP LIBRARY".
This
was A FUN EVENT! Thank you to all the volunteers and members who donated
baked goods and helped with the booth!!
Book Sale Is A Huge Success - December 2006
The Book Sale presented by the Friends of the Bastrop Public Library
in December was a huge success! Friends' President, Michal Hubbard,
said, "The Friends of the Bastrop Public Library want to thank
everyone who volunteered to work on the book sale. You all did a great
job and all that support made it an especially successful event. We
also are grateful for all the folks who came in and bought books".
Volunteers reported that there were guests from Plano who were passing
through town, saw the book sale banner and decided to stop. They complimented
our beautiful library and town. And they bought a tote bag of books
too. Another volunteer saw a mother and daughter shopping in the children's
book section. The mother spotted a book that was her childhood favorite
and bought it for her daughter. The daughter was delighted!
Library Director, Mickey Duvall, said, "Thanks to the great level
of participation from Friends' volunteers and the public, this was
one of the best book sales we have ever had with total sales at about
$2,000! This will buy new books for the library's collection as well
as equipment for library meeting rooms".
Friends of the Bastrop Public library also support the library's
summer reading program, as well as the Teen Advisory
Board.
